Chickering & Sons – Centennial edition – Ampico A – 170 cm
This rare Chickering grand piano was built in 1923. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the famous American piano manufacturer Chickering & Sons. To celebrate, this special version was built: the Centennial grand piano. It is for this reason that the wing has an additional seal on the frame. The grand piano has a beautiful mahogany case. Is painted in satin clear lacquer. The major piano manufacturers from the US had also stopped polishing at the time and all instruments were sprayed with lacquer.
Instrument is currently playing well. About 15 years ago, the pianola was restored in the USA. The pianola has been serviced extensively in our workshop.
Comes with 10 original Ampico piano rolls and 50 pieces of 88-note rolls.
Listed price is current good playing condition. Grand piano has original stringing and the action has been regulated in our workshop.
On request certain parts of the instrument and player system can be fully restored to museum condition.
When Player Pianos were King
The AMPICO ruled Supreme

While the Ampico is not extinct, the number of properly operating pianos with The Ampico is small. These wonderful instruments can still be brought back to their original glory. The Ampico brought excellent music to the home of the early 20th century….and also today.
It is a “Reproducing” player. The paper rolls include dynamic coding as well as notes, giving realism to the musical performance. They were produced with sophisticated recording and editing techniques.
